Antique late 19th to early 20th century Edwin Gillies' & Co Coffee wood thermometer. This advertising piece would have hung in a general store. Gillie is one of the oldest coffee sellers in the United States going back to the 1840s. The thermometer itself was made by Queen & Co. of Philadelphia which changed its name to Gray in 1925. Very nice design and graphics. Whimsical descriptions of the warmer temperatures.
The device is no longer working. It is in nice shape for its age. It does show age and has a nice patina, especially on top. Please see photos for details. Measures 24" x 6".
Extremely rare piece. Perfect for a coffee shop, restaurant, kitchen, or any vintage collection.
